Cost Analysis Dashboard
The Problem & Solution
On construction projects, cost overruns were typically discovered only when invoices arrived — by which point there was nothing left to do. Understanding which of hundreds of line items had overspent took hours to figure out. Decision-making was slow, and budget discipline was hard to maintain across multiple simultaneous projects.
We built a real-time, project-based cost tracking system. Budget figures and actual costs are compared instantly; when a defined variance threshold is crossed, the project manager and management receive an automatic alert. Analysis time dropped from 4 hours to 20 minutes, and budget overruns were prevented on 3 projects in the first quarter after launch.
What We Built
Project-Level Tracking
Separate budget vs. actual table for each project. Drill-down from summary to line item in a few clicks.
Early Warning System
Automatic alert when 80% of the budget is consumed. Intervention happens before the overrun — not after.
Line-Item Analysis
Which work item is overspending? Which subcontractor is deviating and why? Single view, color-coded visual indicators.
Historical Comparison
Cost comparison against similar past projects. Opportunity to improve future project pricing and estimates.
